Guide for Presenters

The following instructions will help you prepare your recorded presentation for the Biofilm Reactors 2021 virtual conference. Please feel free to contact us with any questions at biofilms2021@nd.edu.

Oral and Flash presentations

Oral and flash presentations consist of recorded presentations followed by live questions and answers (Q&A). Oral presentation sessions consist of a 10-minute recorded presentation followed by 5 minutes of live discussion.  Flash presentations consist of a 3-minute recorded presentation followed by a joint, 5-minute live discussion at the end of the three flash presentations in each session. During the discussion, the audience may pose questions, which will be answered live by the presenter.

Oral and Flash presentations consist of PowerPoint slides along with the image and voice of the presenter. Due to the short presentation time, please focus on the “big picture” and key messages from your work. We suggest using up to 10 slides for oral presentations and up to three slides for flash presentations, but this is not strictly required. Please use the official PowerPoint template that you can download here.

Please record your presentation using free ZOOM software, which may be downloaded from https://zoom.us/download. The recorded oral presentation will be made available via a link in the conference app.  It will be available only to conference participants, not to the general public.  It can be viewed, but not downloaded.  Instructions for your Zoom recording are below.

Please upload your recorded presentation prior to November 29 via a shared service that will be provided soon. Please provide your recording as a MP4 file.

Poster presentations

Posters will be stored in the poster exhibition room of the conference platform, and also may be posted in a special networking room. You should be available to present your poster live at the designated time (we tell you the time shortly).

Please follow the poster template provided here. The standard size for the poster is 84,6 x 127 cm.

In addition to the poster, we encourage, but do not require, you prepare a 3-minute presentation of your work, similar to a short oral presentation. You can find the template for your short recording presentation here. We suggest using up to three slides, but this is not a strict requirement. Please focus on the “big picture” and key messages from your work. The audience may view the poster or optional video presentation at any time.

For the presentation, please use the official PowerPoint template, which will be available on the conference website shortly. Please record your presentation using free ZOOM software, which may be downloaded from https://zoom.us/download. The recordings will also be available for the access of conference audiences on the conference platform.  You can find instructions for your Zoom below.

Please upload your poster and your video/voice recording prior to November 29 via a shared service that will be provided soon. The poster should be sent as a pdf, and your recording (if you prepared one) as an MP4 file.
